This Parador is on the site of the 16th Convent of San Francisco, just a few hundred metres from the historic centre of Santo Domingo de la Calzada. A former hospice on the route to Santiago de Compostela, it consists of three separate sections – the church, museum work-shop and hostel. The Parador is located in the former hostel section. Contrasting decoration consists of reddish copper tones and bluish greys with paintings and religious themes and modern graphic arts. As this Parador is also used as a training school by the Parador hotel chain a number of the staff will be on the “work experience” part of their training. The restaurant menu reflects the cuisine of the area and there is, naturally, an extensive array of Rioja wines on offer.
Santo Domingo de la Calzada is 46 km from Logroño and 68 km from Burgos on the N-120. It is 18km from Haro, connecting from the A-68 (Zaragoza-Bilbao/Bilbo).
The Parador can be found in the old quarter of the town, in the San Francisco Square and 500m from the Parador of Santo Domingo de la Calzada. It is south of Bilbao on the old Pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.
