Pousada Convento Belmonte

Description

The Convento do Desagravo was built on the orders of Count Dom Francisco de Lemos de Faria Pereira during the last quarter of the 18th century. It is a beautiful building, notable for its arches and bell tower, set in a superb location close to the Serra da Estrela and Serra do Acor mountains. The former convent has been carefully restored and adapted to create a stylish and comfortable hotel. There is a central courtyard with stone pillars with a natural pool in the centre, terracotta-tiled floors, antiques from the original convent and artistic wall hangings – not to mention a swimming pool and tennis courts. The elegant restaurant offers local dishes with a contemporary touch, and a seasonal mushroom menu. The chapel has been converted into a lounge and bar, yet keeps many original features. A true haven of peace and comfort.
